Ronald Reagan once stated that “government is not the solution to our problem; The problem is government." Over time, history has been able to support what Reagan once stated. In a nation as rich in history as the United States, it is easy to go both ways with this debate, but it state of the nation is normal. describes what direction people choose. moment like the present, when our great nation has been less fortunate in the last ten years but has found a way out of the dust, is the perfect time to discuss about such a topic in the last 80 years, the story has many points where it highlights the flaws of our government making it a problem A government must be popular among its citizens to be successful, but a problem is the public's disappointment in the comparisons to American democracy. An excellent example of this issue would come from an African American soldier writing to President Roosevelt in 1944. In a time when racism was rampant in America, many felt that the government was failing the greater good." But the picture in our country is ruined by one of the strangest paradoxes of our entire struggle against world fascism" (p. 277). The soldier is telling the president that while we fight for a world “based on freedom, equality, and justice” (p. 277), we do not practice what we preach. At home and within the ranks, the government allowed racism free rein. In an era when the government did not oppose segregation but embraced it, many people thought the government was the problem. Democracy is where all men are considered equal. Well, that was the war cry of the American soldiers; well, mostly white American soldiers, they fought for the freedom of all while fighting tyranny. Looking back over the last 80 years, history has many places where it highlights the flaws in our government making it a problem. There are other examples examined in this essay but which certainly had an impact on history. As said before, it's easy to go either way in this debate, but the state of the nation usually describes which direction people choose, it's just how people choose to see events. Studying US history over the last 3+ months, the US government has proven to be the problem in most scenarios. That said, President Reagan made the correct statement that “government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem."
