Topic > Harassment and discrimination in the workplace

Reports of harassment and discrimination are due to a lack of education on the topic. As an independent human resources consultant, Santiago-Santos will organize a local education campaign and provide employers with several training courses to educate them and their employees about harassment and discrimination. Employers will have a better understanding of how to develop internal policies and procedures to address these claims. Additionally, training courses will be provided to employees who will be instructed on how to prevent and identify harassment and discrimination, as well as the steps to take to report such behaviors. Harassment and discrimination can affect a company in many ways. Having a history of harassment and discrimination complaints can damage a company's reputation and impact its bottom line. It can cost the company current and future customers, as well as investors and employees. Depending on the severity of the claims, the claims settlement process can take anywhere from months to years. Meanwhile, the transaction cost and other fees continue to increase. A company may have to compensate affected parties in addition to paying court costs and lawyers. The EEOC saw an increase in monetary rewards from 7.5 million to 24.3 million (Glazer, 1996). However, all of these can be avoided by properly educating employers and employees about their rights and what harassment and discrimination entails. There are many laws that protect employees and employers against harassment and discrimination. Harassment and discrimination goes far beyond just race, color and religion. However, employees do not report harassment and discrimination due to a lack of knowledge of their rights. Three of the most important laws and... middle of the paper... dissolve them. Therefore, organizing a local campaign will provide training on harassment and discrimination for local businesses and help build a healthier community and possibly improve the local economy.
