Leadership in Organizations by Gary Yukl Gary Yukl is a professor of Management and Leadership at the State University of New York at Albany and a board member of Leadership Quarterly magazine. He is a well-known leadership scholar and author. Leadership in Organizations was first published in 1981. This fifth edition was published in 2002 and the previous 19 chapters were consolidated into 15 (which includes a new chapter on ethical leadership and diversity). However, as each chapter begins with a list of learning objectives, the bias appears to lean towards a more academic audience (particularly students of the subject), rather than towards practicing managers. Gary Yukl provides a thorough review of the techniques, citing examples and guidelines throughout. While some may find the style overly directive, others will benefit from the clear path laid out by Yukl.
