Topic > Advantages and disadvantages of a veterinary assistant...

On October 15, 2015, I interviewed Julie Tamburello, veterinary assistant at Banfield Pet Hospital in Willoughby. The main job of a veterinary assistant is to take care of animals and help prevent diseases. Julie's normal workday is as follows: clocks in, then goes back and forth between seeing scheduled patients in rooms and dropping off patients. He normally subjects his patients to checkups, which sometimes include blood tests and stool tests. It also needs to partner with doctors so they know what's happening to their patients. Julie needs to document everything about the patients, including what she finds during the exam and what the patient's owner noticed. He will also help his colleagues. The biggest benefit is saving lives. Julie says there's no greater feeling than this. You give a second chance to an animal and when the owner has lost all hope, telling him that his pet will be fine and seeing his reaction makes you feel really good inside. Do things that matter and make a big impact on people's lives by helping and saving their pets. A pet is part of your family, losing a pet is like losing a family member. There are also disadvantages to this job. These include getting bitten, having bodily fluids all over, and you have to deal with angry customers who can't afford their pet's medical bills, so sometimes people surrender their pets to the animal hospital. Having animals that have been abused or seeing animals that have traumatic injuries is terrifying because you don't know if you can help them and if an animal is abused, they could go home and be abused again. The worst downside I talked about before is euthanizing an animal, it really is. I don't think I would be a good fit because a lot of the characteristics that Julie had described are a good fit for this job, I don't think I have that. I like working alone rather than working with many people. I also don't think I would like to constantly work with clients because I don't have good social skills. I wouldn't be able to handle being yelled at by my angry customers or having to put down animals. I hit a squirrel and cried for an hour because it was so sad and I left feeling terrible. I wouldn't be able to kill animals every day, even if it were the best thing to do. I am very happy to have had this interview because I would rather find out that I do not want to do this profession now rather than after having already completed the necessary schooling, wasting my
