Sex Education in Public Schools The controversy over abstinence and comprehensive sex education came to public attention with a major case in the Montgomery court system. Three groups seeking to block a new sex education program in Montgomery County schools filed the necessary paperwork on July 26, 2007. They were seeking a court order to stop the school system from teaching a controversial sex education course. The case has been solved. The sex education course started again on August 27th. This topic is controversial because each person has different opinions on what children should be exposed to and what will help them. Some parents don't want their children exposed to contraceptives. Thinking that they will take the information and use it to have sex. Others believe that kids will not keep the abstinence promises they have made.
