The belief was that the expansion of the United States was a divine occurrence and that the rights of all other races were ignored. Manifest Destiny was the expansion of the white Anglo-Saxon race which influenced events such as wars and resulted in white supremacy. The white population believed that they had a “God-given” right to take land from what they considered inferior races, namely the Mexicans and Native Americans. Furthermore, the whites believed they could make better use of the conquered territories and revive their economy. There was also a minority group who believed that expansion was inevitable due to the rapid growth of the white population.
